After the Fall of the Demon Race, Reincarnated as a Demon Girl - Chapter 25
After a long while, Luo Jiani finally emerged from the doorway. She was wearing a sky-blue dress, adorned with a sapphire necklace and a delicate silver bracelet, looking every bit the girl-next-door turned young lady.
“Oh… so there really is a guest!!”
This young lady seemed a bit slow on the uptake.
When Luo Jiani met Antina’s eyes, her body instantly stiffened, and her feet involuntarily stepped back several times. She nearly closed the door again, wanting to shut herself securely behind it.
But Antina was quick. One hand firmly gripped the doorframe, and with an undeniable, forceful presence, she stood squarely in front of Luo Jiani.
Luo Jiani felt an invisible pressure wash over her. Beads of sweat rolled incessantly down her forehead, and her back was faintly damp with perspiration.
“I have a task for you. Don’t worry, it’s nothing troublesome.”
A meaningful smile tugged at the corner of Antina’s lips.
“In fact, you could say it’s something you’d enjoy the most.”
As she spoke, Antina gently pushed Renith forward in front of Luo Jiani. She gave Renith’s mage robe a slight tug and continued,
“Later, take this guest to buy some clothes. She might be staying here for a while. Well, I’ll leave the clothing choices entirely up to you; I trust your taste. Also, keep the price reasonable. I can reimburse you through the official account.”
Upon hearing the words “buy some clothes,” the light instantly returned to Luo Jiani’s previously dull eyes. This young lady’s passion was written plainly on her face, obvious to anyone—it was shopping, and spending money.
“Ah, how expensive can clothes possibly be!”
Luo Jiani clenched her fists, pressing them to her chest. Her previously timid demeanor vanished completely, replaced by excitedly shining eyes as she declared loudly:
“There’s no need for you to trouble yourself at all! I guarantee I’ll complete the task perfectly!”
Antina let out a soft sigh and shook her head helplessly. In her view, only Luo Jiani’s father and her hobbies could truly motivate this girl.
Luo Jiani was a clever child, capable enough to get into university on her own merit. If she could channel even a fraction of the enthusiasm she had for her hobbies into her studies, she might have already achieved much more remarkable things.
“Also, contact a door craftsman to fix this wooden door… Hmm, better yet, just replace it.”
Renith had originally thought this might be some unique design choice of the law firm, perhaps to offer a warm place for refugees. It was only now that she realized the door was simply broken.
“Vistah, keep an eye on things today. Handle any clients that come in. I need to go out.”
Antina glanced at the clock on the wall. It was time for her to leave. She had an important meeting today. She was confident Vistah could manage everything at the law firm in her absence—after all, Vistah was her prized student.
Only after giving all these instructions, like a fussy mother-in-law, did Antina finally leave with peace of mind.
The moment the door closed behind Antina, Luo Jiani threw her hands in the air, hopping and skipping around the room, cheering and chattering about “finally getting to relax properly” and “that annoying old woman is finally gone.”
Seriously, she hasn’t gone far yet. She’s definitely going to hear you.
Sure enough, Antina pushed the door open again. Luo Jiani looked toward the sound and froze solid once more, her arms stuck mid-air before slowly lowering under Antina’s gaze.
“S-sorry…”
Luo Jiani apologized before Antina could even speak.
Antina’s eyes swept across the room, finally settling on Luo Jiani. She said slowly,
“I’ll deal with you when I get back.”
The door closed again. Luo Jiani slumped down completely. There was no escaping it now. She should have waited until Antina was further away before celebrating. It wasn’t like this was the first time—why couldn’t she learn?
Ignoring Vistah and Luo Jiani, Renith walked straight to a metal door.
She used a key to open the door to what was originally Lance’s bedroom. Inside was a single bed, a desk, a wardrobe, and a bedside table. The space wasn’t particularly small, and it was fully furnished.
“Feiluofu.”
“I’m here, Lady Renith.”
Feiluofu emerged from the pages of the Codex and landed quietly in Renith’s palm.
“I’m going to inscribe an array here later. First, look around and see what kind of array would be suitable. Hmm… I don’t recommend wandering off. This city, well, I sense something isn’t quite right.”
Feiluofu patted her chest, assuring there was no problem. She had been observing the entire street through the Codex from the beginning and had seen everything that happened. Even if nothing felt off, she wouldn’t dare run around.
For some reason, looking at Feiluofu, Renith thought of Luo Jiani…
Shall we guess which young lady Feiluofu’s prototype is?
Oh~ It’s the eldest daughter of the Marquis, Alegaya~
If the old Alegaya had made such a promise, Renith definitely wouldn’t have believed her. But Feiluofu was far more sensible than both Alegaya and Luo Jiani.
“I’m quite reassured.”
Hearing Renith’s praise, Feiluofu was very pleased. Just then, crisp footsteps sounded from outside the slightly ajar metal door. Feiluofu dashed headfirst into the wardrobe, while Renith called out:
“Who is it? Miss Luo Jiani?”
The footsteps outside stopped, and Luo Jiani’s voice rang out:
“Uh… When should we leave?”
“Anytime is fine.”
Renith thought about it. Right now, she essentially had two tasks: find the “Scholar” and deal with the “Chosen Ones.” These things didn’t seem urgent. Thinking about it, she really didn’t have much else to do.
“Then let’s go now!”
Luo Jiani flung the metal door open, grabbed Renith’s hand, and practically dragged her out onto the bustling street from the previous night.
“Hey, I can walk on my own, you know~”
“Sorry, it’s just… I’m a bit eager.”
Renith didn’t really blame Luo Jiani. She had seen all sorts of personalities in her life, some even more eccentric than this, so she was somewhat used to it. She simply changed the subject.
“Do you really like shopping that much?”
“Of course! Besides playing make-believe, puzzles, or doing some handicrafts, what else is there to do? Go to the casino and lose all your chips? Settle down to read a boring academic paper? Or watch those dull slave fights in the arena?”
“Shopping is fashionable, and it’s fun! It doesn’t cost as much as gambling, and there’s no bloodshed. It’s one of the few interesting things in this dull world, don’t you think?”
Renith was almost convinced, though she couldn’t fully agree. She personally enjoyed delving into research and studies. She didn’t mind going shopping, but it wasn’t her hobby.
“So, where are we going?”
“To Nomanni Boutique! Their clothes are very fashionable. They often release beautiful seasonal outfits. The cuts are elegant, the designs are excellent, the materials are solid, durable… Look, this dress I’m wearing was bought at Nomanni last month…”
Once Luo Jiani started talking, she couldn’t stop.
“Ahem, let’s hurry up then.”
Renith pretended to cough twice, interrupting Luo Jiani. Luo Jiani once again realized she had gotten carried away, a flicker of embarrassment crossing her face. She quickly grabbed Renith’s hand and hurriedly boarded the slowly approaching tram.
After paying one silver coin each, Renith and Luo Jiani got on.
Sitting in the somewhat crowded tram, Renith found it hard to move. She used her magic to keep her hood firmly stuck to the top of her head, constantly mindful of the arms of people around her, afraid her pointed horns might accidentally bump someone and reveal her identity.
“So, if it’s only a short distance, why take the crowded tram?”
Renith couldn’t understand Luo Jiani’s reasoning.
“If it’s convenient, of course we take it! I’m going out to shop, not for a walking workout. Don’t underestimate the distance of just two blocks. If we really walked, it would take over ten minutes! I’d rather use that time to look at a couple more pieces of clothing.”
Renith clicked her tongue slightly, thinking to herself, She really is a pampered young lady who’s never done a day of hard work. Look at this delicacy—even going out has to be comfortable.
Hearing this, Luo Jiani slightly raised her chin, her expression seeming to say, “But of course, that’s only natural.”
Four minutes later, the tram slowly came to a stop, and the doors opened. Renith and Luo Jiani stepped off the tram, their feet landing on the soft red carpet right at the entrance of Nomanni Boutique. Their eyes fell upon the large, flamboyant sign bearing the characters for “Nomanni.”
“No matter how many times I see it, it always looks so impressive.”
Luo Jiani pulled her gaze away and dragged Renith into Nomanni Boutique.
Upon entering, Renith first noticed the faint scent of perfume and the fresh smell of fabric lingering in the air.
A gramophone in the shop played captivating jazz music.
Looking up, the crystal chandelier overhead cast a soft light, making every garment gleam.
On the walls around them, fashion items of various styles hung in an orderly yet varied display—some simple and elegant, others intricate and luxurious.
The number of bustling customers in the shop was a clear testament to Nomanni Boutique’s immense popularity. Even though it was still early morning, the store was already filled with guests carefully selecting clothes.
Young women dressed in slightly revealing attire moved among these customers with smiles, occasionally softly introducing the new season’s arrivals.
One of these young ladies approached Renith and Luo Jiani.
“Hello, ladies. How may I assist you?”
“Please help her pick two outfits that fit well. I’ll just look around. Let me know when you’ve decided.”
Luo Jiani’s eyes swept around the room. Spotting something, they instantly lit up. She released Renith’s hand and hurried over to a wall to admire the items there.
“Uh… Well, let’s go then.”
Renith closed her eyes and sighed inwardly. She then turned to the shop assistant and continued,
“Please take me to select two outfits. If there are any matching hoods or relatively loose hats, please bring them for me as well.”
The young lady’s smile widened. She made a “please” gesture and led Renith to the casual clothing section. After assessing Renith’s figure, she picked out two items.
“I think these two would suit you very well, and they meet your requirements.”
