Medical Imaging was a fascinating subject, and Xu Ze had always thought so. Every time the professor displayed various imaging slides, Xu Ze was deeply intrigued.
Through these images of different parts of the human body, abnormalities could be clearly identified. Xu Ze often pondered why hospitals were more effective than clinics. The role of advanced diagnostic equipment was undoubtedly significant.
Today, the professor was teaching Chapter 3: Respiratory System, Section 3: Basic Pathological Manifestations. As the professor displayed large X-ray images on the screen, Xu Ze listened attentively, analyzing the abnormalities based on the professor’s explanations.
Chest X-rays were perhaps the most commonly used imaging tests. Whether it was a lung infection, chronic bronchitis, tuberculosis, or lung cancer, this test was often the first step in diagnosis.
“As you can see, in this chest X-ray, the lung markings are significantly thickened and disordered, with patchy shadows visible. This is a clear case of lung infection…”
Following the professor’s laser pointer, Xu Ze nodded in agreement as he observed the markings and shadows on the X-ray. Indeed, without the professor’s explanation, he wouldn’t have noticed these details.
Next, the professor displayed a new chest X-ray. This time, Xu Ze had a better grasp. He carefully examined the image, noting the thickened and disordered lung markings, which appeared as linear shadows, particularly prominent in the lower lung fields. There was also increased lung translucency and changes in the heart shadow.
Based on these signs, Xu Ze guessed this was a case of chronic bronchitis with emphysema. He recalled the chapter he had reviewed before class.
Sure enough, the professor adjusted his glasses and continued, “This is a chest X-ray of a long-term smoker. Based on the changes in lung markings and the increased lung translucency, we can clearly diagnose this as chronic bronchitis with emphysema!”
“Exactly!” Xu Ze felt a sense of pride as he glanced at the professor’s noticeably yellowed fingers. He nudged Luozi beside him and whispered, “Looking at the professor, he must have decades of smoking history. I wonder what his lungs look like—probably not much better than this!” He then sneakily glanced at the professor’s thin chest, grinning mischievously.
Luozi chuckled in agreement, and the two began imagining what the professor’s smoke-filled lungs might look like after decades of smoking.
Xu Ze’s eyes wandered as he observed the professor’s slim figure clad in a well-tailored suit. He thought to himself, “If the professor were to get an X-ray, his lungs would probably show thickened and disordered markings too.”
Just as he was thinking this, something strange happened. The professor’s chest suddenly darkened, becoming semi-transparent, like a shadow.
His ribs became clearly visible, followed by his lungs. The markings on the lungs were as clear as an X-ray image.
Xu Ze’s eyes widened in shock. He almost gasped aloud, blinking repeatedly to confirm this wasn’t an illusion. He was utterly stunned.
“What’s going on? What is this?” Xu Ze stared at the bizarre scene before him. He quickly removed his glasses and looked at the professor again.
Without the glasses, everything returned to normal. The professor was still wearing his neat gray suit, with no trace of the strange transparency.
Xu Ze put his glasses back on, and the X-ray-like effect returned. He realized that this (transparency only occurred when he wore his glasses.
Luozi, noticing Xu Ze’s shocked expression, asked curiously, “Xu Ze, what’s wrong? Did something get in your eye? Want me to blow on it for you?”
He puckered his oily lips and leaned in, startling Xu Ze, who quickly waved him off. “No, no, it’s fine, it’s fine…”
After finally dismissing Luozi, Xu Ze had time to investigate the glasses.
“Is this Xiao Dao’s doing again?” Xu Ze wondered as he observed the (X-ray-like scene. Just then, Xiao Dao’s voice echoed in his mind: “Correct. Your glasses and the ring on your finger are external auxiliary devices of the system. However, since you haven’t officially reached Level 1 Medical Soldier status, the system won’t proactively inform you of their functions. For now, you’ll have to explore them on your own. I’m going back to sleep. Have fun, but remember—complete nine energy circulation cycles today. See you tonight!”
With that, the irresponsible Xiao Dao vanished, leaving Xu Ze to figure things out on his own.
