With My Ability To Swap, I Will Never End Up In A Love Triangle Mess - Chapter 76
“Miss? Miss, are you listening?”
A slightly hoarse male voice snapped Xia Xi back to attention. He lightly patted his (or rather, Luo Xinyu’s) cheeks to quickly regain focus.
“Mhm… I spaced out for a second. Could you repeat that?”
Even though Xia Xi had no idea what the man was talking about, he had to play the role of “Take your time, I’m listening”—otherwise, the bodyguard might grow suspicious.
Well, not of him, but of whether “Miss Luo” had suddenly developed multiple personalities.
“Ah! Why’d you come now?!”
Luo Xinyu’s voice in his mind flustered.
She hadn’t expected Xia Xi to swap into her body so soon after returning to her hotel.
But that wasn’t the real problem.
The real problem was—she’d been in the middle of grilling her bodyguard for intel about Xia Xi!
“Understood.”
The bodyguard was slightly puzzled. His young mistress had been laser-focused just moments ago—how could she have “spaced out”?
But he didn’t dwell on it. The person in front of him was undeniably Luo Xinyu. No one could’ve swapped places with her under his watch. And besides, they were indoors—it wasn’t like some mysterious needle could come flying out of nowhere to alter her state of mind.
“Regarding the boy you mentioned, Xia Xi—the moment he saw you, his pupils constricted sharply. He definitely recognized you.”
Xia Xi’s heart dropped.
Oh, you sneaky little rich girl. You had your bodyguard analyzing my micro-expressions?!
No wonder. His pen name, “Summer Dawn,” was way too close to his real name. She must’ve connected the dots.
“Well, I am Father’s eldest daughter. He’s publicly shared some basic information about me, so it’s natural he’d know. Anything else?”
Truthfully, Xia Xi hadn’t recognized Luo Xinyu at first. He’d only learned about her background later through online searches.
As one of the wealthiest families in the capital, the Luo family’s public presence was substantial.
But clearly, the real Luo Xinyu in his mind wasn’t buying it.
“I only ever took one photo with Father in elementary school! Your theory’s flimsy, Chen Xi~”
Since the bodyguard was still present, Xia Xi didn’t respond to her mental commentary and motioned for him to continue.
“There’s more. When you brought up the topic of ‘dreaming of becoming someone else,’ he showed clear signs of panic—immediately lowering his head and focusing on his food. Textbook evasion behavior.”
Seriously?! You caught that?
Xia Xi had ducked his head the instant she mentioned it. How was this guy so observant?!
Damn it, are you really just a bodyguard? You’re more like a detective!
At this rate, he half-expected the man to dramatically declare, “The truth is always in the details!”
“Go on.”
Xia Xi had no way to explain himself, so he could only keep listening.
Luo Xinyu had clearly come prepared. She probably already suspected he was more than just the author of Dragon Reign.
“My assessment? The boy has likely fantasized about you, Miss. That’s why he acts so nervous and guilty in your presence. I’d advise finding someone else to focus on—he isn’t worth it.”
Oh, so now you’re badmouthing me behind my back?
Fantasized about her? Please. He could literally take over her body whenever he wanted. What was there to fantasize about?
This was slander!
Unfortunately, even though this “righteous” bodyguard had just low-key insulted him, Xia Xi couldn’t afford to react. Right now, he was “Chen Xi”—not college student “Xia Xi.” Getting angry over a stranger’s opinion would be out of character.
“Understood. I’ll consider what you’ve said. You may leave now.”
The room only had one bed, so the bodyguard likely stayed in the adjacent room or stood guard outside. Dismissing him was perfectly normal.
Nodding, the bodyguard exited without another word, quietly closing the door behind him.
“Phew—alright, Miss Luo, care to explain what that investigation was about?”
Xia Xi exhaled deeply, relaxing as he half-collapsed onto the plush bed.
Luo Xinyu was wearing a strappy dress, and the moment he lay back, one of the shoulder straps slipped down.
“Nothing much~ I just met the author of Dragon Reign today. Do you know the novel, Chen Xi? It’s been really popular lately.”
Her tone was as gentle and soothing as ever.
Even when Xia Xi spoke using her voice, the way she talked was completely different.
“Dragon Reign? I’ve read it! It’s great. But you actually went out just to meet someone? That’s new!”
Playing with a strand of her hair, Xia Xi pulled out Luo Xinyu’s phone and idly scrolled through videos.
“It wasn’t just to see him. His name sounded similar to yours, so I wondered if you two were connected.”
Miss Luo was nothing if not direct.
She laid out her thoughts plainly.
Her reasoning was simple: Whether “Chen Xi” was Xia Xi or not, he’d tell her when he was ready. Her trip served two purposes—one, to see what he was like in real life, and two… well, the box of blades had been intentional.
“Haha, so… do you think we’re the same person?”
Xia Xi let out an awkward laugh, thumb flicking through video after video.
“Hmm… how to put it? He seemed shyer, while you’re more… mischievous?”
Xia Xi couldn’t help but protest. “Mischievous?! I’ve been nothing but respectful to your body!”
He, Xia Xi, was a man of principle. To this day, he hadn’t harmed a single girl.
High EQ: “Hasn’t harmed a single girl.”
Low EQ: “Still a hopeless virgin.”
“Oh? Then who was it who tried to strip me naked the first time they took over?”
That was a joke!
Xia Xi had no defense.
Okay, fine, he had used her body to bathe.
But in his defense, it kept happening when she was already in the bath! At that point, wasn’t it just… natural adaptation?
He’d never crossed any lines! Never! His conscience was clean!
“Ahem, let’s not dwell on that. When are you heading home?”
The last thing Xia Xi needed was Luo Xinyu roaming around town. If they “coincidentally” met again, he’d have to endure another round of nerve-wracking small talk.
“No rush. There’s a little gathering I’m attending here.”
“Gathering?”
“Mhm. A small meetup for Dragon Reign fans. I heard ‘Willow Breeze’ might be there too. It’ll be my first offline meet-and-greet~”
