The Almighty Martial Arts System - Chapter 329
It was almost eleven o’clock by the time they returned to Su Nan’s home.
Even though Jiang Fei had come over earlier to take care of Tongtong and made her a delicious dinner, Su Nan still felt terribly guilty and inadequate as a mother for leaving her daughter alone at home and returning so late.
This was the first time she had ever come back this late. She expected Tongtong would be fast asleep by now. But to her surprise, when she quietly opened the door and stepped inside with Jiang Fei, the lights in the living room were still on, the TV was playing, and little Tongtong was sitting intently on the sofa watching cartoons. She was so absorbed she didn’t even hear them come in.
Seeing this, Su Nan wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry.
She was usually quite strict with Tongtong. Raising a child in a single-parent household, she had to play the roles of both mother and father and couldn’t afford to be too lenient. She rarely let Tongtong play games on her phone or tablet, and TV time was strictly limited. Tongtong was always sent to bed before ten o’clock every night.
But tonight, with Su Nan returning late, the little girl had seized the opportunity to happily keep watching, not feeling sleepy at all. It wasn’t until Jiang Fei and Su Nan walked further into the room that she suddenly noticed them. She quickly grabbed the remote to turn off the TV and said cheerfully, “Mom, you’re back!”
Initially feeling guilty, Su Nan’s emotions shifted seeing her daughter’s lack of self-discipline. She put on a stern face and asked, “Why aren’t you in bed yet? It’s so late!”
Tongtong, standing barefoot on the sofa, looked slightly panicked, but her eyes darted around cleverly. “I couldn’t fall asleep because you weren’t home yet…” she said adorably.
Jiang Fei was amused by the little one’s answer. He walked over and patted her head. “Tongtong, you’re so clever!”
Su Nan also found it hard to stay stern. She shook her head, a smile tugging at her lips. “Alright, now that Mom’s home, go wash up and get to bed immediately. It’s really late!”
“Okay!” Tongtong nodded. But her big eyes remained fixed on Su Nan’s face, sparkling with curiosity.
Su Nan touched her own cheek. “What is it? Is there something dirty on Mom’s face?”
“No,” Tongtong said, shaking her little head earnestly. “I just think Mom looks really pretty today. Prettier than when you wear makeup! Your cheeks are all rosy…”
Hearing this, Su Nan felt a sudden pang of guilt. She instinctively reached up and touched her cheek again, pretending to be annoyed. “Nonsense. Mom doesn’t look any different.”
She worried inwardly. Hadn’t it been almost an hour since she and Jiang Fei had been intimate to counteract the poison? Even though her body still felt a bit weak, her complexion should have returned to normal by now. Why was it still flushed?
What Su Nan didn’t realize was that this wasn’t just a post-climax flush. After being single for so long, her skin had naturally become more radiant and dewy, her complexion brighter than before, after being thoroughly satisfied by Jiang Fei.
As the saying goes, women are made of water, but they need men to replenish that moisture regularly. Otherwise, even the most beautiful woman will gradually wither and dry up.
“But Mom, you really do look prettier,” Tongtong insisted, pouting slightly.
She was confused. Wasn’t praising someone’s looks supposed to make them happy and earn you a compliment in return? Why wasn’t her mom pleased today? And she was definitely telling the truth!
“Alright, that’s enough. Go wash up and go to bed,” Su Nan said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear somewhat self-consciously. She shot a glare at Jiang Fei, who was standing nearby with a knowing smile. This is all your fault!
For now, she conveniently chose to forget that she had been the one drugged, and initially, the one who pushed him down.
Su Nan took Tongtong to her room to get washed up. Jiang Fei went to clean up the dishes from Tongtong’s dinner, planning to heat them up for himself and Su Nan to eat later. Their intense ‘workout’ in the car had been quite physically demanding, and he was already starving.
He expected to find the table in a mess, as children aren’t known for neat eating habits. He thought the feast he had carefully prepared would be scattered and picked over.
To his surprise, Tongtong hadn’t eaten messily at all. She had neatly eaten only a few of her favorite dishes, leaving the others untouched, probably intending to save them for Jiang Fei and Su Nan. Even the dishes she had eaten from still looked relatively presentable.
Jiang Fei couldn’t help but feel impressed. Tongtong was really a well-mannered little girl. Su Nan must have done a great job raising her.
Soon, Su Nan had put Tongtong to bed. Since the food wasn’t badly messed up, Jiang Fei found it easy to reheat. In no time, the dishes were back on the dining table.
“You made so many delicious dishes today,” Su Nan said, visibly touched as she looked at the full table.
Jiang Fei smiled and nodded. “They’re reheated, so not as good as fresh out of the wok, but still pretty decent. Try them. And I have to say, I didn’t realize it before, but Tongtong is really thoughtful. She has such good table manners even eating alone.”
Su Nan was also famished. Even though she had gone to dinner with Guo Jianren and the others earlier, she had been too preoccupied and cautious to eat much. Combined with the ordeal of the drug and their subsequent vigorous activity, the sight of this spread made her mouth water.
However, Su Nan didn’t eat as voraciously as Jiang Fei. He finished filling his stomach fairly quickly, while she was still eating. He sat beside her, quietly admiring this beautiful woman who, though only a few years older than him, exuded such a mature charm, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Su Nan soon noticed his gaze. Having just been stared at by her daughter, and now by Jiang Fei, she didn’t feel uncomfortable this time. She gave him a coquettish sidelong glance. “What are you looking at?”
“Sis Nan, you really have become more beautiful,” Jiang Fei said with a grin.
“Was I not pretty before?” Su Nan retorted without thinking. The moment she said it, she realized how girlish and out-of-character it sounded, and she felt a little embarrassed.
Jiang Fei shook his head. “You were pretty before too. But now you look even more charming and captivating.”
“Sweet talker. No wonder you can charm so many girls,” Su Nan said, though she felt quite pleased inside.
Suddenly, Su Nan frowned, remembering something. She looked up at Jiang Fei, concerned. “By the way, that Guo Jianren from tonight… he’s not an ordinary person. I’m afraid after you beat him up so badly today, he won’t let it go easily.”
Unlike Lin Molly, who knew Jiang Fei’s background and capabilities inside out, Su Nan saw Guo Jianren as the kind of person ordinary folks shouldn’t provoke – a surefire way to get into trouble.
And the way Jiang Fei had beaten Guo Jianren half to death, leaving him barely recognizable… Given Guo’s arrogant nature, he was bound to seek revenge.
At the KTV, beating them up had felt justified, a way to vent anger. But now, the real trouble was probably coming.
Jiang Fei smiled, about to reassure her, when—
Ding-dong!
Someone was ringing the doorbell, so late at night!
“Who could that be at this hour? A neighbor?” Su Nan wondered aloud, getting up to answer the door.
The moment she opened it, her face changed. Her eyes widened, and she instinctively tried to slam the door shut immediately!
She turned back to Jiang Fei, her face pale with fear. “It’s Guo Jianren! And Li Wei! And that Bald Brother Long! They’ve found us! What do we do?”
Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.
Su Nan thought they would wait a while before seeking revenge, but it seemed they believed in settling scores on the very same day! They had come straight to her home!
From her quick glance outside, Su Nan had seen clearly. Besides the three men, their faces bruised and swollen, bodies wrapped in bandages, there were several other people with them. They had clearly brought backup!
Hearing this, Jiang Fei was also somewhat surprised.
These guys really didn’t waste any time, seeking revenge the very same night. He had just notified Ye Yuanyuan, and he figured the big-eyed girl probably hadn’t even started taking action yet. If she had, these thugs definitely wouldn’t dare show up here looking for trouble.
But Jiang Fei certainly wasn’t afraid. He quickly went over to comfort Su Nan, who was pressed tightly against the door. “It’s alright,” he said calmly. “Open the door. Since they’re here, we’ll just teach them another lesson.”
Ding-dong!
The doorbell rang again, sounding neither urgent nor aggressive, almost hesitant. Surprisingly, these scoundrels were politely ringing the bell instead of pounding on the door or trying to break it down.
Jiang Fei started to feel that something was off.
He patted Su Nan’s shoulder, gently moving her away from the door and placing himself protectively in front of her. Then, he opened the door.
Sure enough, it was Guo Jianren, Li Wei, Bald Brother Long, and the others.
The trio looked like they had just been discharged from the hospital. They were still in patient gowns, their heads heavily bandaged, arms in slings, being supported by others – the picture of severely injured patients.
Besides them, there was also a middle-aged woman dressed in expensive clothes, her figure well-maintained. Bald Brother Long stood beside her like a subordinate.
But regardless of who was who, the entire group stood respectfully outside the door, not looking at all like they were there to cause trouble.
Instead, they all wore miserable, pleading expressions. Their eyes were filled with a single, overwhelming emotion.
Fear.
Before a slightly surprised Jiang Fei could speak, the men, including the woman, bowed deeply.
“We’re sorry!” they said in unison, their voices strained. “We’re here to apologize!”
Those who couldn’t bend easily due to their injuries forced themselves to bow painfully low…
