Super Doctor - Chapter 49
When Xu Ze mentioned Li Xiaorui’s name, Sun Lingfei gave him a slightly surprised glance before nodding with a smile. “I thought you were completely oblivious to the outside world. Turns out you know Xiaorui.”
“Though the name ‘Piano Princess Li Xiaorui’ isn’t as thunderous as yours, Miss Sun, there aren’t many male students at Xing University who haven’t heard of her. I attended one of her recitals,” Xu Ze replied with a chuckle. Thinking of the gentle and refined girl, he added, “They say her personality is completely different from yours—I’m surprised you two get along.”
“Oh? You know her?” Sun Lingfei asked curiously, noticing Xu Ze’s expression.
Xu Ze shook his head lightly. “I’ve only been to her recital, so I wouldn’t say we’re acquainted.”
Glancing at his phone, he realized it was already past seven. “Alright, let’s get the injection done. Otherwise, I won’t make it back to the dorm tonight.”
At the mention of the injection, Sun Lingfei’s smile instantly darkened. She pouted her pretty lips and looked at Xu Ze with pitiful eyes. “Already? Can’t we wait a little longer? I just ate—let me rest for a bit, okay?”
Seeing her act this way, Xu Ze couldn’t help but smirk. “Come on, stop playing the victim in front of me. Who’d believe the great Miss Sun could make such a face?”
“You’ll have to get it done sooner or later. Why drag it out? The sooner we finish, the sooner you can relax.” Without waiting for further protests, he rummaged through the medicine bag on the coffee table, then fetched a clothes hanger from Sun Lingfei’s room. Hanging the IV bag on it, he placed it beside the sofa and motioned for her to come over.
Sun Lingfei let out a reluctant huff before trudging over and plopping onto the sofa. She thrust out her arm and glared at Xu Ze. “Fine, go ahead. But if you mess up, I’m sticking you back!”
Faced with her tantrum, Xu Ze could only sigh inwardly. Thankfully, he had steady nerves—if it were anyone else, her intimidation tactics might’ve made them fumble.
Still, he knew she was just acting out because she was genuinely afraid of needles. Even if he did mess up, she wouldn’t actually retaliate. So without another word, he tied the tourniquet around her delicate wrist, disinfected the area, and inserted the needle in one smooth motion. Without even checking, he released the tourniquet, secured the IV line, and adjusted the flow rate.
Sun Lingfei’s heart raced as she yelped, “Hey! You didn’t even look! Did you even get it in?!”
“Check for yourself. If I missed, you’d be in pain,” Xu Ze replied, hiding a smirk. He deliberately ignored her, tidied up the supplies, took a sip of tea, and headed to the kitchen to wash the dishes—leaving Sun Lingfei behind with a string of indignant protests.
After a tense moment, Sun Lingfei finally confirmed the needle was properly placed—no pain, no swelling. She let out a relieved sigh, but inwardly grumbled, This Xu Ze… He seems honest, but he’s actually a sly one! Making me worry like that!
Once the kitchen was clean, Xu Ze leisurely sipped his premium Tieguanyin tea on the sofa, watching a new blockbuster while occasionally bickering with the sulking Sun Lingfei. By 10 p.m., the IV was finished, and he hurried back to the dorm.
But the moment he pushed open the door, he froze.
The dorm’s “boss,” Luozi, was seated sternly in the center, while Pangzi and Gangzi—who had abandoned their beloved World of Warcraft—stood on either side like bodyguards, arms crossed and eyes blazing as they glared at him.
“Hmph!” Luozi slapped his thigh and barked, “You! Explain yourself! What’s your deal with Sun Lingfei? Where’d you go tonight? Spill it, or we’re enforcing dorm justice!”
“Yeah! Confess now—leniency for honesty, severity for resistance!” the two lackeys chimed in, their voices dripping with jealousy as they bolstered Luozi’s intimidation.
Crap… Xu Ze knew he was in deep trouble. Publicly cozying up to the campus goddess, the number one beauty of Xing University? That was a cardinal sin.
But since he’d already done it, honesty was his only way out—unless he wanted to face the dreaded “dorm justice.”
So, the poor guy quickly raised his hands in surrender, signaling his willingness to cooperate.
After a carefully worded explanation, Luozi and the others stared at him in disbelief. When they finally realized he wasn’t lying, they gasped in unison.
“Wait… You mean working your butt off at that clinic actually landed you this kind of luck?!”
“Not only did you save a beauty—it was Sun Lingfei, the top campus belle?!” The trio exchanged glances, utterly unwilling to accept that Xu Ze had stumbled upon such outrageous fortune.
After a long, brooding silence, Luozi suddenly looked up with a forced grin. “A’Ze… We’re good brothers, right?”
“Uh… Yeah, of course,” Xu Ze replied cautiously, sensing trouble.
“Then…” Luozi’s dark face twisted into an awkward smile. “Is that clinic… hiring interns?”
“Uh—” Before Xu Ze could respond, Gangzi and Pangzi immediately crowded in, eyes gleaming.
“We wanna go too!”
…
Later that night…
After falling asleep, Xu Ze quickly entered the virtual space. But something felt off—Xiao Dao, usually playful and sarcastic, seemed unusually serious today.
Before Xu Ze could ask, Xiao Dao waved a hand and transported him into a virtual examination room. Gesturing to a patient, he said flatly, “Start your training. Today’s task is heavy—you must correctly diagnose and treat twenty patients. One mistake, and you get an electric shock.”
“Twenty?!” Xu Ze’s jaw dropped. Analyzing twenty cases, making accurate diagnoses, and prescribing treatments—without a single error? He wasn’t even a full-fledged intern yet!
Seeing his shock, Xiao Dao smirked inwardly. I’ve spent most of my stored energy simulating these twenty patients. If you don’t pass today, I won’t have enough left for tomorrow’s session. Better step up, or else.
Recognizing the unyielding glint in Xiao Dao’s eyes, Xu Ze sighed. No room for negotiation today.
Resigned, he approached the virtual elderly patient and began the examination.
Xu Ze had to admit—Xiao Dao’s simulation technology was impressive. The old man before him looked utterly real: the flushed face from coughing, the slightly cyanotic lips, the faintly distended neck veins… Every detail was flawless.
