Super Doctor - Chapter 44
“Impossible. Sun Lingfei has always looked down on guys. I heard she doesn’t even spare a glance for Zhang Tianyu—how could she possibly be with Xu Ze?” Zhang Linyun observed Xu Ze pushing his bike, trailing half a meter behind Sun Lingfei, their demeanor far from intimate. This only confirmed her suspicion: Xu Ze had likely just been roped into being Sun Lingfei’s errand boy.
With that thought, Zhang Linyun stopped in her tracks as she crossed paths with Xu Ze. She gave him a coy smile and said, “Xu Ze… long time no see.”
“Not that long—just over a month.” Hearing that familiar voice and seeing her charming smile, Xu Ze felt a sharp pang in his chest. Yet, his lips curled into a faint smirk as he glanced at Zhang Linyun, then at Tao Zhixiong beside her, before replying casually.
Tao Zhixiong’s expression darkened at the sight of the two. Though he maintained a calm facade, resentment simmered inside him. Running into Xu Ze alone wouldn’t have been an issue—he’d even planned to flaunt Zhang Linyun in front of him to twist the knife.
But encountering Sun Lingfei was another matter. Ever since she had publicly humiliated him, reducing him to a pitiful retreat, Tao Zhixiong had abandoned his former admiration for her. Now, all he felt was bitterness.
Yet Sun Lingfei was beyond his reach. His hatred festered, often fueling fantasies of dominating her.
Now, seeing her with Xu Ze, Tao Zhixiong’s envy flared. Sun Lingfei’s radiant beauty, slender waist, long legs, and ethereal grace outshone Zhang Linyun by miles. Even if Xu Ze was just tagging along as her lackey, it was a privilege most guys could only dream of.
Though seething, Tao Zhixiong knew better than to provoke Sun Lingfei. But Xu Ze? He was fair game. Zhang Linyun had made it clear—Xu Ze’s fight that day had been a fluke, a moment of blind rage. Normally, he was just a pushover.
So, Tao Zhixiong decided to take his frustration out on Xu Ze, humiliating him in front of Sun Lingfei. A sneer twisted his lips as he jeered, “Well, well… Xu Ze, moving up in the world? Found yourself a new girlfriend?”
Xu Ze caught the taunt in Tao Zhixiong’s smirk—this was an attempt to drive a wedge between him and Sun Lingfei. Cold amusement flickered in his heart as he replied flatly, “No. Sun Lingfei and I are just friends.”
“Just friends?” Tao Zhixiong let out an exaggerated laugh. “Ha! I knew our precious Sun大小姐 wouldn’t stoop to your level.”
“Tao Zhixiong, watch your mouth. Don’t start trouble.” Sun Lingfei’s brows furrowed, her voice icy.
Tao Zhixiong chuckled darkly. He wasn’t foolish enough to provoke Sun Lingfei directly. Even if she wouldn’t resort to violence in public, crossing her was unthinkable. His target was Xu Ze.
“Just looking out for Xu Ze,” Tao Zhixiong said with mock concern, grinning maliciously. “Since Sun大小姐 isn’t interested, how about I set you up with someone? Wu Lanhua from the Econ Department—she’s a bit dark, a bit plump, but she loves pretty boys like you—”
“Get lost.” Xu Ze’s voice was a blade of ice. His patience had snapped. He’d initially held back for Zhang Linyun’s sake, not wanting to embarrass her despite their breakup. But now? No more restraint.
Tao Zhixiong stiffened. The meek, indifferent Xu Ze from moments ago had vanished, replaced by someone shockingly assertive. But while he feared Sun Lingfei, Xu Ze was another matter. His face twisted in rage as he clenched his fists. “Get lost? Who the hell do you think you are? Say that again, I dare you.”
“I said, get lost. Are you deaf?” Xu Ze’s handsome face was etched with disdain, his gaze frigid.
Sun Lingfei and Zhang Linyun stared in stunned silence. Zhang Linyun, especially, was floored. She’d known Xu Ze as gentle, even timid—except for that one explosive moment during their breakup. Now, his steeliness was staggering.
“You—!” Tao Zhixiong’s fury boiled over. No one—no one—except Sun Lingfei had ever treated him this way. With a roar, he swung his fist, aiming straight for Xu Ze’s face.
“Get lost!” Xu Ze’s voice was a whipcrack. At the same time, his pupils flashed with an eerie glint—an imperceptible ripple of energy lancing into Tao Zhixiong’s eyes.
“Agh—!” Tao Zhixiong’s blood ran cold. Suddenly, Xu Ze seemed monstrous, his gaze radiating an unshakable, primal terror—like a beast poised to tear him apart.
Stumbling back in panic, he tripped and crashed to the floor, his face ashen.
Zhang Linyun and Sun Lingfei gaped at the scene, bewildered. How had a single word from Xu Ze reduced Tao Zhixiong to this quivering wreck?
Xu Ze, though pale for a moment, quickly steadied himself. A thrill ran through him. Xiao Dao’s mental interference technique really works! Even with his rudimentary psychic strength, a single low-level mental strike had this effect. If this was just the beginning, mastering its full potential was imperative.
With Tao Zhixiong thoroughly humiliated, Xu Ze cast him one last scornful glance before turning to Sun Lingfei. “Let’s go.”
Snapping out of her daze, Sun Lingfei studied Xu Ze intently before nodding.
Xu Ze gave Zhang Linyun a curt nod, then pushed his bike forward, leaving the two behind as he and Sun Lingfei headed for the exit.
Only after they were gone did Tao Zhixiong, helped up by a frantic Zhang Linyun, shake off his terror. The murmurs of onlookers, drawn by his earlier outburst, made his face cycle through shades of rage and humiliation. With a furious yell, he kicked a nearby shelf—sending instant noodles crashing to the floor.
As they scrambled to clean up, a security guard stormed over. “Hey! What the hell are you doing?!”
