Super Doctor - Chapter 38
“Your room?” Xu Ze was momentarily stunned when Sun Lingfei suggested he sleep in her room. He blinked, his expression turning slightly awkward.
Seeing Xu Ze’s reaction, Sun Lingfei’s cheeks flushed red. She glared at him and said, “If it weren’t for the fact that you’ve been taking care of me and haven’t slept much, I wouldn’t let you sleep in my bed. If you don’t want to, fine. I’ll sleep in Xiaorui’s room… hmph…”
With that, she struggled to stand up from the sofa, walked into the room on the right, and pulled out a set of pink pajamas. Pouting, she stomped into the other room, leaving Xu Ze standing there, dumbfounded and shaking his head with a bitter smile.
But Xu Ze really was tired. Although the virtual space had provided him with deep sleep, he had only slept for two hours. He had managed to hold on earlier, but now that he was full and relaxed, sleepiness was creeping in. After a moment of hesitation, he finally walked toward Sun Lingfei’s room.
Xu Ze was truly oblivious to his good fortune. While other guys would go to great lengths to get close to Sun Lingfei and build a relationship with her, Xu Ze not only spent the late hours alone with her but also entered her private room and was even allowed to sleep in her bed.
And yet, this guy was acting all reluctant. If the other guys at Xingda University found out, many would probably want to strangle him.
Xu Ze sighed softly in the living room, hesitated for a moment, and then walked into the room.
Sun Lingfei’s room wasn’t large, but it was tidy and lacked the clutter typical of many girls’ rooms. The furnishings were simple: a cozy bed, a beige wardrobe, and a delicate desk and chair. There were no dolls or stuffed animals on the bed, which made Xu Ze feel a bit more at ease.
Since he was already here, Xu Ze didn’t hesitate any longer. He closed the door, took off his clothes, and lay down on the bed. He was genuinely exhausted.
The bed was soft, far more comfortable than the hard dormitory bed. As he lay there, the faint fragrance from the blanket stirred his imagination. This was Sun Lingfei’s bed, and he was probably the first guy to sleep in it. If others found out, they’d probably be green with envy. After some random thoughts, Xu Ze drifted off to sleep.
In the virtual space, Xiao Dao’s handsome face wore a mischievous smile. “Haha… kid, you’re really lucky. This girl has taken a liking to you. Keep it up, win her over. I support you!”
Xu Ze wasn’t in the mood to discuss such matters with Xiao Dao, a computer program. Talking about romance with a machine was like playing the lute to a cow. He snorted, “Stop talking nonsense. Let’s focus on the lesson. We’ve wasted a lot of time today…”
“Alright, alright, let’s continue,” Xiao Dao said, his playful expression fading. After all, his primary duty wasn’t to play matchmaker but to train Xu Ze into a super medic.
Over the past month, Xu Ze had made rapid progress in his studies. He had basically completed the foundational medical courses, and in recent days, he had nearly finished battlefield first aid. The next major task was virtual internships.
Virtual internships were the most critical step in advancing to a Level 1 medic. Many super medics spent a significant amount of time on this stage. Although the advanced virtual system provided the best learning and training methods, individual aptitude was crucial. Many people got stuck at this stage for one or two years when trying to advance to Level 1 medic.
However, based on Xu Ze’s experience at the clinic, Xiao Dao believed this internship would be relatively easy for him. Xu Ze had already demonstrated independent thinking and analytical skills. What he lacked was some experience. With proper study, a week or so of internship should be enough for him to advance.
For Xu Ze, the virtual internship wasn’t particularly challenging. To him, it was similar to seeing patients at the clinic. With sufficient knowledge and experience, along with careful examination and analysis, it was quite straightforward.
The only thing he was curious about was how Xiao Dao’s internship would differ from his clinic experience.
With a wave of Xiao Dao’s hand, the virtual space transformed into a white consultation room. A patient sat at the desk, looking at Xu Ze as if he were a savior. The intense gaze gave Xu Ze goosebumps, and he quickly turned to Xiao Dao with a questioning look.
Seeing Xu Ze’s puzzled expression, Xiao Dao shrugged and gestured toward the patient. “Well… first lesson of the internship: clinical diagnosis. Begin…”
“Cough… so we’re starting the internship just like that?” Xu Ze blinked, feeling speechless.
Xu Ze was baffled, staring at the first patient Xiao Dao had assigned him. He had already examined the patient two or three times and analyzed the symptoms repeatedly: nasal congestion, runny nose, headache, body aches… a temperature of 37.9°C, red throat, normal tonsils, no abnormalities in the heart or lungs, and a normal neurological exam… It seemed like…
Xu Ze glanced uncertainly at Xiao Dao, who was standing nearby with a strange expression. At first, Xiao Dao looked expectant, then gradually confused, and finally almost disdainful. This made Xu Ze even more unsure. He wiped the sweat from his brow, racking his brain to rule out all possible illnesses, but he couldn’t find anything else wrong.
One minute, three minutes, five minutes… Finally, Xu Ze couldn’t take it anymore. He looked up at Xiao Dao, embarrassed, and hesitated before saying, “Xiao Dao… I really can’t figure out what else is wrong with him…”
Hearing this answer, Xiao Dao slowly raised an eyebrow and stared at Xu Ze for a long time, his expression growing increasingly peculiar. Finally, a hint of pity flashed in his eyes as he said, “You can’t figure out what’s wrong with him?”
“Uh…” Xu Ze’s face turned red with shame. He lowered his head and muttered, “Other than a cold, I really can’t find anything else.”
“…” Xiao Dao was speechless. After a moment of processing, he sighed helplessly. “He just has a cold. You diagnosed it correctly, but it took you way too long…”
“It took you fifteen minutes to diagnose a cold. I’m impressed…” Xiao Dao shook his head, seemingly disappointed, and then looked at Xu Ze with a disdainful snort. “Honestly, with your level, I don’t know how you’ve managed to survive at the clinic.”
“What? What did you say?” Xu Ze’s eyes widened, and his mouth twitched involuntarily. “You’re saying… he just has a cold? I went through all that trouble, and you gave me such a simple case?”
“Exactly. He just has a cold. I specifically picked the simplest case to boost your confidence, but I didn’t expect…” At this point, Xiao Dao looked utterly exasperated, as if lamenting Xu Ze’s incompetence. He sighed deeply. “You’ve really let me down…”
“Pfft…” Hearing this, Xu Ze’s face turned pale, then red. He threw his head back and spat out an imaginary mouthful of blood, exclaiming in frustration, “In the past, there was Dui Chuanchang, who spat out ten pounds of blood while competing with Zhou Xingxing in poetry. Today, there’s me, Xu Ze, practicing with you, Xiao Dao. I’m sure I’ll spit out more than ten pounds… Heaven, just kill me now…”
Seeing Xu Ze’s furious reaction, Xiao Dao secretly wiped a bead of sweat and quickly sped up his behind-the-scenes actions…
