Super Doctor - Chapter 182
Seeing the suddenly chaotic headlights in his rearview mirror hundreds of meters away, Xu Ze frowned and said clearly to Sun Lingfei beside him, “Hold on tight…”
At the same time, he lightly tapped the brake, his right hand quickly shifting through several gears, using the friction to rapidly decelerate. Once the speed dropped, he slammed the brake hard and swiftly turned the steering wheel to the left.
With a forceful maneuver, the Aston Martin screeched sharply, spinning around to face the opposite direction.
Sun Lingfei gasped, about to speak to Xu Ze, when the Aston Martin roared again and sped back the way they came.
Within seconds, Sun Lingfei realized why Xu Ze had turned around so quickly. Ahead, Zhang Libao’s Ferrari was stalled sideways in the middle of the road, its front and rear completely mangled. Sparks flickered among the wreckage – it was a total wreck.
At this sight, Sun Lingfei’s face instantly paled. Zhang Libao had crashed…
‘What if something happened to Zhang Libao? If he’s hurt, the trouble will be huge. No matter the reason, if Zhang Libao is injured, the Zhang family will never let this go easily!’ The thought raced through Sun Lingfei’s mind. Now she understood why Xu Ze was rushing back so urgently.
Another piercing screech of brakes echoed as the Aston Martin skidded to a halt sideways dozens of meters from the Ferrari. Xu Ze, frowning slightly, opened the car door and quickly ran towards the Ferrari, which was now emitting more sparks.
“Xu… if you’re going to save them, you have fifteen seconds! After fifteen seconds, I can’t guarantee your safe escape!” Little Scorpion, who knew his host’s personality well, had quickly scanned and analyzed the Ferrari’s condition.
By now, many of the young socialites had rushed over from the opposite direction, but seeing the sparks flying from the Ferrari, their faces were filled with horror, and no one dared approach.
“Fourteen, thirteen…” As Little Scorpion counted down in his mind, Xu Ze didn’t hesitate any longer. Ignoring Sun Lingfei’s shocked cry behind him, he charged towards the Ferrari.
Reaching the car door, Xu Ze could now see Zhang Libao inside. The sports car’s airbags had deployed. Zhang Libao seemed to be moving slightly – probably dazed from the impact.
Without delay, Xu Ze grabbed the door handle and pulled, but the door remained firmly shut. Little Scorpion’s voice sounded again: “The door is damaged, can’t control the computer to open it… eleven…”
“Damaged?” Xu Ze raised an eyebrow, a flash of anxiety in his eyes. Suddenly, he gritted his teeth and raised his right hand. The ring on his finger rapidly changed shape, its surface forming a sharp, conical tip.
The young socialites across the way, standing dozens of meters back, too afraid to approach, watched in astonishment as Xu Ze stood by the sports car and raised his fist.
With a dull thud, the car window turned into a web of shattered glass. Xu Ze punched again, and the shattered pane collapsed with a crash.
Ignoring the blood now dripping from his right hand, Xu Ze grabbed the door and gave a furious shout. With a screech of tearing metal, the jammed door was ripped open by his brute force, hanging loosely to the side.
“Eight, seven…”
Hearing the relentless countdown, Xu Ze reached in, grabbed Zhang Libao’s arm, and slashed at the seatbelt with his right hand. A small blade extended from the ring, severing the belt instantly.
By now, flames from the engine hood were growing noticeably higher. Everyone watching Xu Ze’s actions gasped nervously.
Xu Ze pulled the still-dazed Zhang Libao out. Hearing the countdown continuing in his mind, he hoisted Zhang Libao, leaped up, and – to everyone’s shock – stepped onto the car roof, then jumped down to the other side, reaching for the passenger door.
This time, luck was on his side. The door on this side wasn’t jammed and swung open easily…
“Four, three…” Xu Ze slashed the seatbelt, pulled out the unconscious girl, tucked her under his arm, and turned to run…
Just as a sharp alarm blared in his mind, and after he’d run only six or seven meters, a loud BOOM erupted behind him. A blast wave, carrying sharp debris, slammed into them.
In the intense explosion’s glare, a faint, barely visible membrane of light shimmered around Xu Ze, just barely shielding all three of them.
The force of the blast sent them tumbling forward, rolling awkwardly on the ground before finally coming to a stop.
Only after the shockwave passed did Xu Ze turn to look back at the burning Ferrari, heaving a sigh of relief.
If it weren’t for Little Scorpion, he wouldn’t have dared attempt the rescue. A delay of just two seconds could have meant serious injury.
Turning his attention to Zhang Libao and the heavily made-up girl, he saw that Zhang Libao, having rolled a couple of times, seemed to have regained his senses. He was staring dumbfounded at the flames leaping from the Ferrari, his face a mask of terror.
As for the girl, she was still dazedly looking around.
Xu Ze slowly got to his feet. He looked towards Sun Lingfei, who was now standing up from behind the Aston Martin’s door, her face pale but seemingly unharmed. Relieved, he let out a breath.
Looking at the cuts and bloodstains on his right hand from the broken glass, Xu Ze sighed softly. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a tissue, and gently wiped away the blood and grime.
Meanwhile, the young socialites behind him stared at Xu Ze’s silhouette against the flames. Remembering his swift, decisive rescue and his almost fearless actions, their eyes held a mix of awe and respect.
Ferrari windows aren’t easy to shatter. And he seemed to have ripped the door right open with brute force…
And carrying Bao Shao, who weighed over 150 pounds, leaping onto the roof like that – that couldn’t have been easy either…
By now, Zhang Libao had fully regained his senses and slowly climbed to his feet. Although everything had been a blur while he was dazed, remembering the scene, he knew Xu Ze had risked his life to save him.
Watching Xu Ze standing there, wiping the blood from his hands, Zhang Libao shook his still-woozy head and walked over. He looked at Xu Ze, a complex expression in his eyes, but said earnestly, “Thank you for saving me. I’ll remember this.”
Xu Ze looked up at Zhang Libao, seeing the genuine seriousness in his eyes, and slowly smiled. “No need for thanks, Bao Shao. We’re all friends here, just racing. If there’s an accident, of course we help each other out.”
“Friends…” Zhang Libao looked at Xu Ze’s faint smile, thought back to the danger, glanced at the blood and cuts on Xu Ze’s hand, then turned to look at the ‘friends’ and ‘brothers’ standing far behind him. He smiled too, the look in his eyes becoming much more sincere. He nodded. “Alright… thank you. Even among friends, I’ll remember this favor.”
Seeing the expression in Zhang Libao’s eyes, Xu Ze smiled as well. It seemed he’d gained another friend. He tossed the now blood-stained tissue into the fire and said lightly, “Alright, Bao Shao… I’ll head off now. Lingfei is waiting for me over there.”
Hearing Sun Lingfei’s name, a strange glint flashed in Zhang Libao’s eyes, but he quickly nodded. “Mm… thank you for today. But I still lost… someone will deliver the check to you tomorrow.”
“Bao Shao, you’re too kind… we were just fooling around. Forget about the check…” Although somewhat reluctant – it was a million, after all – Xu Ze wasn’t someone who placed utmost importance on money. Having Zhang Libao as a friend in Beijing would likely be worth far more than the cash…
With that, Xu Ze smiled, walked around the burning Ferrari, and headed towards Sun Lingfei.
Seeing Xu Ze approach, Sun Lingfei could no longer hold back. Remembering the scene moments before, the thought that she had almost lost the man before her, made her rush forward. She threw herself into his arms, wrapping hers tightly around his waist, pressing against his chest, feeling the familiar, warm scent. Choking back a sob, she said, “Xu Ze… you scared me to death… Don’t you ever do that again… I don’t want to lose you…”
“You won’t… you won’t lose me. I’ll always be by your side…” Xu Ze gently patted her back, comforting her softly.
Once Sun Lingfei had calmed down a bit, he held her shoulders gently and said with a smile, “Alright now… it’s okay… don’t cry. It’s getting late, let me take you home.”
“Mm…” Sun Lingfei nodded gently, finally releasing her hold on Xu Ze. Leaning against him, they walked towards the car.
Watching the Aston Martin’s taillights recede into the distance, and the figures of Xu Ze and Sun Lingfei, Zhang Libao let out an unwilling sigh, shook his head, and walked back towards the group of socialites.
After dropping Sun Lingfei home and turning back, the sports car convoy and the young socialites had long since disappeared. Only a few firefighters remained, preparing to haul away the Ferrari’s wreckage.
Back at the hotel, just after a shower, his phone rang. It was Li Yue.
“Xu Ze… I heard you were pretty impressive today?” Li Yue’s tone held a strange note.
Xu Ze chuckled lightly. “Not really… just did what I had to.”
“Heh… beating Zhang Libao in a street race, then fearlessly, with almost superhuman strength, saving his life… and that’s not impressive?” Li Yue sighed, a mix of emotions in his voice. “This matter… it’s probably spread all over Beijing by now. The Zhang family owes you a huge favor…”
“But,” Li Yue cautioned carefully, “you need to think twice in the future. Don’t be so reckless with such dangerous things again.”
“Mm… I understand. I won’t,” Xu Ze replied softly.
“Get ready tomorrow. I’ll take you to meet an elder…”
