Super Doctor - Chapter 164
Li Yue was picked up early the next morning, much to Xu Ze’s relief. Although Li Yue had been very friendly toward him, having such a high-profile young master under his care was undeniably stressful.
Before leaving, however, Li Yue asked for Xu Ze’s phone number. Then, with an air of effortless ease, he was carried out of the ward by six subordinates who had specially flown in from Beijing, accompanied by two doctors and two nurses. They loaded him into Xingcheng’s most advanced medical transport vehicle and headed straight for the airport.
“With that kind of setup, he must have a private jet waiting for him…” Xu Ze thought with a touch of envy.
But envy aside, he still had his own responsibilities. Xu Ze was confident in himself. Though he couldn’t compare to those like Li Yue who were born with silver spoons in their mouths, he had Xiao Dao. As long as he worked hard, it wasn’t impossible for him to surpass their achievements one day…
After finishing his morning rounds, Xu Ze completed a few medical orders and had Director Qu sign off on them. Just as he was about to take the medical records to the nurse’s station, someone walked in and said to Director Qu with a hearty laugh, “Lao Qu… your department’s surgeons are really impressive these days…”
“Hmm?” Director Qu looked up and smiled. “Director Gu… what brings you to our emergency department today?”
Director Gu seemed quite familiar with Director Qu. He pulled up a chair and sat down in front of Director Qu’s desk, saying lightly, “Hey… Lao Qu, I haven’t been here for a few days, and your emergency department has already produced some remarkable talent…”
“Oh… Lao Gu, that doesn’t sound quite right to me…” Director Qu chuckled. “We’ve sent who knows how many patients to your department, and getting a compliment from you is like pulling teeth. Yet here you are singing praises today—is this sarcasm?”
Hearing this, Director Gu burst out laughing and pointed at Director Qu. “You old fox… now you’re playing dumb…”
“Yesterday, your emergency department sent us a patient with a ruptured spleen. But no ultrasound was done, no other tests were performed—your doctor just directly told our Dr. Hu it was a ruptured spleen and urged immediate surgery… Even your nurse had already notified the blood bank about the blood type and sent ten units of blood up to us.”
Director Gu said with a smile, “Our Dr. Hu takes his job seriously and scolded your doctor for being reckless, but then your nurse yelled right back at him…”
“What?” Director Qu was shocked upon hearing this. “No ultrasound? Was it a misdiagnosis?”
He immediately looked at Xu Ze beside him, his eyes full of surprise and doubt, thinking to himself, “How could Xu Ze be so irresponsible? This isn’t something to joke about!”
But Director Gu’s next words turned his shock into relief. “It wasn’t a misdiagnosis… Thanks to him, the patient was sent over in time, and the blood bank had the blood ready. It saved the patient’s life…”
At this, Director Gu sighed with emotion. “After your nurse yelled at Dr. Hu, he quickly arranged an emergency bedside ultrasound. Turns out your doctor was right.”
“The patient went into shock on the way to the operating room, but fortunately, the blood bank had already sent the blood up. They started transfusing immediately… and that got him through the surgery.” Director Gu smiled at Director Qu. “Lao Qu… when did you get such a skilled doctor on your team? Someone like this should be in our surgery department!”
“Huh…” Director Qu was stunned and looked at Xu Ze in astonishment.
Realizing this was about him again, Xu Ze quickly grabbed the medical records and hurried out without hesitation. If he stayed any longer and got caught by this Director Gu, he’d be in for a round of questioning he wouldn’t easily escape.
If they really pressed him for details, he’d have a major headache—making up stories and excuses. The ruptured spleen was one thing, but if they asked about the blood type, what would he say?
Seeing Xu Ze dart out like a rabbit with its tail on fire, Director Qu wore a bitter smile. This guy always managed to do the unexpected…
Director Gu followed Director Qu’s gaze and saw Xu Ze leaving. He couldn’t help but feel curious. Why was Lao Qu looking at that young doctor? That young doctor must be in internal medicine rotation or still an intern… not surgery. It couldn’t be him…
He turned back to Director Qu and said with a smile, “Lao Qu… introduce me to this talented person on your team, won’t you? I promise I won’t try to steal him from you.”
Hearing Director Gu’s dissatisfied tone, Director Qu said with a wry smile, “You just saw him…”
“Saw him?” Director Gu was taken aback but quickly caught on. He stared at Director Qu in disbelief. “Lao Qu… you’re not joking, are you?”
“It was that kid just now?”
Director Qu nodded helplessly. “Yes… it was him.”
“What? Him? How is that possible!” Director Gu exclaimed. “How old is he? He’s in internal medicine, right? Lao Qu, don’t mess with me…”
“Why would I mess with you? It was him…” Director Qu looked at his old friend and said with a bitter smile, “Yesterday, he handled five trauma patients in twenty-five minutes all by himself… Three had multiple lacerations requiring over a dozen stitches each; one had a dislocated elbow, and one had a ruptured spleen…”
“What? How is that possible?” Director Gu couldn’t help but exclaim. “Even Director Liu, the best trauma specialist in our hospital, would be hard-pressed to work that fast… How could he possibly do it?”
“It’s possible… I saw it myself. Yesterday, he was alone—without even a nurse… He was in the operating room for about twenty-five minutes and handled five out of seven car accident patients…” Director Qu held nothing back from his old friend. He was extremely curious about Xu Ze himself, but given Xu Ze’s position, he couldn’t pressure him for answers. It had been weighing on him, so he finally let out all his pent-up amazement.
As Director Qu finished speaking, Director Gu was completely stunned… One person… without any assistance… Three patients with multiple lacerations requiring over a dozen stitches each, one with a dislocated elbow… plus a ruptured spleen—all handled in twenty-five minutes. What kind of concept was that?
Director Qu looked at his friend’s utterly shocked expression with satisfaction. Having someone else just as amazed eased the frustration in his heart a little…
After a long while, Director Gu finally closed his gaping mouth and said to Director Qu, “Really…”
“Really.”
“Then what are we waiting for? Transfer him to our surgery department!” Director Gu suddenly grabbed Director Qu’s hand, his eyes blazing with excitement. “Lao Qu… give him to me. I’ll make him the top surgeon in our department!”
Hearing Director Gu’s excited outburst, Wu Yue and others in the office looked over in astonishment. But the scene before them made their jaws drop—they could hardly believe their eyes. Directors Gu and Qu were acting like an old couple, holding hands so intimately in public…
Moreover, Director Gu was tightly gripping Director Qu’s hands while looking at him with excitement and enthusiasm, like a deeply moved lover…
Although everyone knew the two directors had always been close, no one had imagined they were this close…
So, at the sight of this, Wu Yue’s water cup fell to the ground with a clatter… Qian Xuebin, who was about to take a medical file handed to him by Zhang Qi, was so stunned he forgot to reach out for it.
“Clatter, thud…” The two sounds drew the directors’ attention. Wu Yue let out a gasp and jumped up because the hot water had splashed onto her legs, which were only covered in stockings, leaving obvious red marks…
As the two directors looked over, the other doctors awkwardly turned away, flustered. Wu Yue quickly pretended to pick up her cup, while Zhang Qi and Qian Xuebin simultaneously bent down to pick up the medical file as a cover.
Tragedy struck again—their heads collided with a dull “thud.” Both clutched their heads and groaned in pain…
Among the four, only Li Yuqing remained calm. She picked up a book and started reading it very seriously, but the two directors noticed the large words “Internal Medicine” on the cover were upside down…
Seeing the flustered and embarrassed expressions of everyone, the two directors exchanged puzzled glances before realizing they were still holding hands. They immediately understood why the doctors were acting so awkward and strange. In an instant, both their faces flushed bright red.
Director Qu quickly snatched his hand back from Director Gu and vigorously wiped it on his white coat. Behind his glasses, his small eyes were full of shame and anger as he glared at Director Gu, who had caused him such embarrassment and misunderstanding.
Director Gu also looked panicked, knowing the doctors had misinterpreted his actions… With a red face, he forced a dry laugh and said to everyone, “Don’t misunderstand… don’t misunderstand… I just took a liking to someone in your emergency department… That… I was discussing with your Director Qu…”
“Took a liking to someone in our emergency department?” The doctors exchanged puzzled glances, suddenly feeling a chill run down their spines. “Is this old guy interested in someone else besides Director Qu?”
Just as everyone was feeling creeped out, Xu Ze, thinking the office was quiet and assuming Director Gu had left, happened to walk back in…
Seeing Xu Ze enter, Director Gu’s eyes lit up. He grabbed Xu Ze and said to Director Qu, “Lao Qu, I want him… Let me tell you, from now on, he’s mine…”
“What?” The doctors were shocked. This old guy had taken a liking to Xu Ze? And he was openly trying to poach him?
