I Swapped Bodies With a Female Celebrity - Chapter 73
Qin Yunxuan was currently at the center of a media storm. Having decided to simply stop caring about the chaos for now, she had spent the last few days at the Jiuyang City branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, studying under Professor Chen.
After several days of spending nearly every moment together, Professor Chen found that this student, whom he had taken on somewhat on a whim, kept surprising him more and more.
Whether it was her breadth of knowledge or her practical skills, her talent was astonishingly high!
He just couldn’t wrap his head around it—how could someone like her have chosen to become a celebrity?
She truly belonged in the world of scientific research!
“What a waste of talent, an absolute shame!”
Although this thought weighed heavily on Professor Chen’s mind, there wasn’t much he could do about it.
After all, Qin Yunxuan’s primary career was as an entertainer. Being his student and an honorary member of the Academy were just secondary roles.
If he tried to convince her to stay at the Academy permanently, Starlight Entertainment definitely wouldn’t agree.
It was a real headache.
“Director, you wanted to see me?”
Mu Zhiyan knocked and entered the office.
“Ahem, Zhiyan, I’ve heard you’ve been spending a lot of time with Yunxian these past couple of days?”
“Yes, Director. Were you looking for Yunxian?”
Director Chen quickly clarified, “No, no, it’s you I wanted to talk to. There’s something I’d like to discuss!”
Mu Zhiyan blinked, quietly waiting for Director Chen to continue.
“Well… recently, it seems Yunxian has been facing some… difficulties in her career?”
“Oh, that’s right. Previously, there were some people online spreading malicious rumors about Xuanxuan. She was feeling pretty down because of it. Professor Chen, did you… want to help her?”
Director Chen gave a dry cough. “These kinds of challenges are things Yunxian needs to face herself; that’s how she’ll grow! Mmm… So, has she mentioned anything lately about… not wanting to be an entertainer anymore, or anything like that?”
A hint of a smile appeared in Mu Zhiyan’s eyes.
She had been wondering why Professor Chen wanted to speak with her alone. So, this was the reason!
“Professor Chen, you don’t want her to be an entertainer anymore, do you? You want her to come work at the Academy?”
Director Chen’s face flushed slightly; his little scheme had been seen through by this young woman.
“Well… I do respect Yunxian’s choices. So, I just wanted to understand her thoughts better. If she genuinely doesn’t want to continue as an entertainer, I could have a word with Starlight Entertainment for her!”
Mu Zhiyan’s expression turned somewhat strange. “Um… Professor Chen, you… you don’t actually know about Yunxian’s family background, do you?”
Director Chen shook his head. “I only know her family situation seems quite comfortable, but the specifics…”
Mu Zhiyan leaned in and whispered a few sentences into Director Chen’s ear.
His face instantly shifted, followed by a wry smile. “Never mind. I think I understand now why she became an entertainer. It seems… the world can be cruel to geniuses.”
“She has such remarkable talent in science and technology, yet she… Ah!”
Seeing Professor Chen’s sighing and despondent expression, Mu Zhiyan’s eyes sparkled with an idea. “Professor Chen, even though Xuanxuan can’t fully commit to the scientific community, I can try to persuade her to dedicate more of her energy and time to this field. How does that sound?”
“That would be wonderful!” Director Chen said earnestly. “I’m entrusting you with the task of guiding Yunxian in that direction!”
…
That night, Qin Yunxuan did a quick calculation. It was already the fifth day since the last swap. If she woke up on Earth again tomorrow, it would confirm her theory: she and Qin Lang were swapping bodies every five days.
But if she woke up tomorrow still in her own world, it would mean her previous assumption was wrong. In that case…
A shiver ran down Qin Yunxuan’s spine. Wouldn’t that mean her genius, comeback-queen persona was about to completely collapse?
“Even though I feel like I’m getting the short end of the stick by letting you occupy my body… I still really hope I wake up on Earth tomorrow!”
The technological “wasteland” that was Earth genuinely intrigued her.
Meanwhile, on Earth, Qin Lang was lying in his rented room.
He was pondering the exact same question.
After thinking for a moment, Qin Lang took out his phone and opened the camera in video mode.
Ahem. “Hello, my name is Qin Lang. I live at…”
No, no. That sounded like a self-introduction for a blind date!
After several failed attempts, he finally recorded a version he was satisfied with.
In the video, he explained everything that had happened recently in detail. If Qin Yunxuan saw it, she would be fully caught up on events.
After finishing the recording, Qin Lang climbed into bed and went to sleep.
“I really hope I wake up back in Qin Yunxuan’s world. It’s so much more interesting than this one!”
…
When the morning sun shone on his face, Qin Lang woke up.
The first thing he did was reach his hands up and feel around.
Elevated. Soft. Smooth. Firmly buoyant.
He breathed a sigh of relief and sat up. The room that greeted him was both unfamiliar and yet known.
“We really did swap again! It seems my hypothesis was correct. It really is a five-day cycle!”
He stretched, acclimating to Qin Yunxuan’s body, and began looking around.
He had left a message for Qin Yunxian. Surely she wouldn’t leave him with nothing, right?
Finally, he found a video on Qin Yunxuan’s phone.
He tapped play. Qin Yunxuan’s face appeared on the screen, looking decidedly unenthusiastic.
“If you’re seeing this video, it means you’re not a complete idiot. Your name is Qin Lang, right? I’m Qin Yunxuan. Due to some unknown reason, our souls have swapped bodies. So, we need to exchange information.”
“Nothing particularly noteworthy happened on my end these past five days. I just spent the time at the Academy of Sciences. If you have nothing better to do, try to avoid going there. If you, with your academic shortcomings, expose us, I won’t let you off the hook!”
Watching Qin Yunxuan shake her little fist on the video, Qin Lang felt a metaphorical sweatdrop form on his forehead.
‘Academic shortcomings’? What’s wrong with not being a top student? Wasn’t it precisely because of this ‘slacker’ that she managed to become Professor Chen’s student in the first place?
“Finally, I have a few rules for you. First, you must maintain a proper distance from members of the opposite sex. Second, no taking baths… Actually, forget that. Just don’t do anything weird with my body! Third, don’t eat too much. I need to maintain my figure. Fourth…”
On and on she went, listing a total of eighteen rules. Finally, she smacked her lips, seemingly wanting to say more but stopping. “That’s all for now. Oh, by the way, you’ve been doing alright so far. Keep it up.”
That’s it? That’s all?
Qin Lang blinked. Did nothing else happen to her in these five days? What about her interpersonal relationships? Her parents? Siblings?
She explained practically nothing, and just ended it?
And what’s with that condescending tone of hers?
He had thought they could finally communicate properly, hopefully making this parallel world challenge a bit easier. But he never expected…
“I can definitively say, if this were a game, Qin Yunxuan would absolutely be the useless teammate you get stuck with!”
