Honkai: Oh No, I’ve Become the Herrscher of Corruption?! - Chapter 149
2014, Changkong City.
“The United Nations has issued a statement confirming the outbreak of a new infectious virus in Changkong City. As of 10 a.m. this morning, the city has lost contact with the outside world. We can only hope that Schicksal’s special forces will—”
Enoxia stood atop a skyscraper hundreds of meters high, looking down at the city below. Changkong City was overrun with Honkai beasts and zombies—the situation couldn’t possibly be worse.
“Well, looks like Otto’s the only one in all of Schicksal holding the line against Anti-Entropy. They’ve been casually dragging their feet for almost a year after losing the Core of the Herrscher of Thunder. These people are something else. Tsk, tsk… No wonder someone like Cocolia could cause such a mess all on her own…”
BOOM.
With a deafening roar, a Chariot-class Honkai beast slammed into the building where Enoxia stood. Concrete and glass rained down as dust billowed outward.
Feeling the structure tremble beneath her feet, Enoxia knew the skyscraper—who knows how many billions it cost to build—was about to collapse.
She leaped into the air and landed smoothly on the back of the Chariot-class Honkai beast.
“Hmm… The view’s not bad here either. You—stay right where you are.”
With a light pat, the Honkai beast beneath her feet immediately became her thrall, freezing in place and blocking the road.
“Oh, looks like the main characters have arrived.”
Enoxia sat atop the Honkai beast, her gaze fixed on another building not far away—she knew perfectly well that was the main academic building of Chiba Academy.
Inside that building, Kiana was pulling Mei along as they rushed up to the second floor, pursued by several zombies clad in the same Chiba Academy uniforms.
After turning left on the second floor, Kiana kicked open a classroom door, only to find two more zombies inside.
“If you’re already dead, then quit blocking the way!”
Without hesitation, Kiana drew the pistol at her waist. At such close range, two bullets found their marks—headshots.
The two dashed into the classroom, and Mei quickly closed and locked the door. The relentless banging against the door from outside told them the zombies couldn’t get in; for now, they were safe.
Just as they were about to catch their breath, a massive figure charged toward them through the window. Kiana and Mei fired simultaneously, but their bullets ricocheted harmlessly off its armored shell.
“What do we do? Our weapons aren’t working at all.”
On the rooftop of a nearby high-rise, a petite girl with twin turbine-like pigtails was sprinting at high speed. The moment the Chariot-class Honkai beast shattered the window with its fist, she leaped down, something seeming to materialize behind her.
“Target locked. Heavy Assault Bunny 19C—Fire!”
BOOM.
A heavy blast echoed as the Honkai beast collapsed. Bronya landed atop its head and hopped in through the broken window.
“Mission complete.”
Bronya’s expression remained unchanged, but Mei rushed over excitedly and took her hand.
“That was amazing! You showed up just in time, Bronya!”
Seeing how warmly Mei treated Bronya, Kiana wasn’t having it. She pointed a finger accusingly at Bronya, clearly annoyed.
“What’s there to thank her for? She barged in out of nowhere, hacking and slashing—she almost got me caught up in it too!”
“System assessment: Kiana’s safety priority level is… negligible. Her survival is not a concern.”
Faced with a jealous Kiana, Bronya fired back without missing a beat. Mei could only look on helplessly as the two bickered. Figuring out how to keep all three of them safe—that daunting task now fell to her.
“Why are these terrifying monsters still appearing? Is the Honkai energy level still rising? With these creatures swarming everywhere, how much time do we even have left to escape…?”
While trading barbs with Kiana, Bronya scanned their surroundings. Her eyes fell on Mei’s right arm, where a wound—likely from broken glass—was visible.
“Mei-senpai, you’re injured.”
“Ah, it’s just a minor scratch. It’s nothing to worry about—”
Kiana followed Bronya’s gaze and saw the cut on Mei’s arm. She immediately stopped arguing, stepped forward, and took Mei’s arm.
“Here, let me see—”
Before Mei could respond, Kiana lifted her arm.
“A wound like this… just needs a little lick.”
With that, she directly licked the cut on Mei’s arm.
A tingling sensation spread through Mei’s entire body, and her face turned redder than a ripe apple.
“Ahh~ Kiana, don’t… stop that… please, stop…”
Hundreds of meters away, Enoxia sat cross-legged on the head of the Chariot-class Honkai beast. Though the details were fuzzy, Mei’s soft, flustered moans carried clearly even from that distance.
“I’m a chemist, and this is some strong base.”
Enoxia pointed forward, and the Chariot-class and Templar-class Honkai beasts that had been charging toward the academic building immediately halted.
“What do you think you’re doing? A lovely couple is having their moment. You charging in would just kill the mood… Hm?”
Just then, a sound like a revving engine grew louder and louder, soon drowning out Kiana and Mei’s voices. Enoxia looked up to see a massive ship appearing in the sky above Changkong City.
“The Hyperion… Sigh, guess it’s time for me to get moving too.”
Enoxia snapped her fingers, and the Honkai beasts that had been standing still resumed their activity.
“Don’t go for the kill… Actually, these things probably couldn’t take down a Herrscher anyway. No point overcomplicating things.”
With no Honkai beasts approaching for some time, the three girls leaped down from the academic building and sprinted forward as fast as they could.
Mei glanced back into the distance—the massive Chariot-class Honkai beast had stopped in its tracks.
“That’s strange… Why did it stop?”
“Who cares, Mei? It’s good that it’s not chasing us! Come on, let’s go!”
Seeing Mei hesitate, Kiana grabbed her hand and pulled her along.
About half an hour later, the three of them, gasping for breath, rushed into a building that appeared largely untouched by the destruction. Fortunately, there weren’t too many zombies inside. Working together, they managed to clear the area, temporarily securing the building as a safe zone.
The three finally allowed themselves to relax, their nerves stretched to the breaking point. Exhausted, Bronya immediately fell asleep with her head resting on Mei’s lap.
Seeing Kiana sitting across from them, scowling with a pouty, almost cat-like expression, Mei quickly explained:
“Without Bronya’s help, we wouldn’t have made it this far. We’ve all been through a lot and we’re tired. Getting some proper rest is what matters most right now, so—”
“Yeah, yeah, Bronya’s amazing. Mei loves Bronya the most…”
Perhaps because Kiana’s interruption was too abrupt, Mei flashed a mischievous smile:
“Yep, that’s right. I love her the most.”
Seeing Kiana’s deflated expression, Mei felt a little pleased but also a bit guilty. She hurriedly added:
“I love Kiana the most, too.”
Kiana, instantly soothed like a mollified cat, immediately reached out and took Mei’s hand, a blush spreading across her cheeks:
“Really?”
Mei nodded earnestly:
“Of course! Kiana is my savior… It’s strange—we’ve only just met, but it feels like I’ve known you forever… I just hope we can make it out of here safely…”
Mei’s expression gradually grew somber, her voice becoming distant and uncertain.
“We will! We’ll definitely make it out of here safely!”
Mei paused. Though she didn’t know where Kiana’s confidence came from, looking at her bright, cheerful face, she felt herself infected by that optimism. Her heart began to beat a little faster.
Squeak. Squeak.
Just then, an unusual noise reached them. Kiana and Mei turned to look simultaneously.
CRASH. SHATTER.
A Templar-class Honkai beast thrust its arm through the building. With a single strike, it pierced clean through the structure. As it retracted its arm, the entire building crumbled with a thunderous roar.
Kiana, Mei, and a startled Bronya immediately leaped down.
CRUNCH. CRACK. SHATTER—
As the outer walls of the building collapsed, Bronya, supported by the Heavy Assault Bunny, swiftly shattered all the falling debris that threatened to hit them.
But the Templar-class Honkai beast seemed to seize this opening. Swinging its razor-sharp right arm like a blade, it charged straight toward Mei.
With all her strength, Kiana shoved Mei out of the way.
Everything happened too fast. By the time Mei registered what was happening, the Honkai beast’s right arm had slashed across Kiana’s back. Blood sprayed across Mei’s face.
Like a kite with its string cut, Kiana fell weakly into Mei’s arms. Mei could feel it—her life was fading away…
