As An Antique Shop Owner, It's Only Reasonable That I Know A Bit Of Magic - Chapter 126
When Su Fan saw the Detective and Carl, they also spotted him in the crowd at a glance.
“Hey! Su! Over here!”
They had barely called out when they saw Su Fan reach them with lightning speed.
“What are you two doing here?”
Su Fan reached out and lowered the sign Carl was holding, then reluctantly accepted the bouquet of flowers from the Detective.
“Jamie’s watching the antique shop, couldn’t make it to pick you up, so he asked us to come instead.”
“How was the experience this time away?”
After answering the question, the Detective smiled and asked Su Fan.
“It was alright.”
Carl, standing to the side, heard Su Fan’s response and seemed to want to say something but stopped himself.
Ever since Su Fan went to New Orleans, Carl had been closely following the local news.
Sure enough, there had been reports of strange “thunderstorm” weather there.
Judging just from the area of destruction and the “damage” reported, the enemy Su faced this time was much stronger than the Voodoo couple before.
But no matter how strong the enemy, Su was always stronger.
“How has Jamie been lately?”
“He’s been fine watching the shop. There haven’t been many customers coming in for appraisals recently.”
Hearing this, Su Fan felt a bit more at ease.
If they weren’t there for appraisals, they were likely there to buy antiques.
Most items in the shop had descriptions and price tags. Simple tasks like taking payment shouldn’t be beyond someone as capable as Jamie.
“However, he mentioned there were a few special visitors to the shop too.”
“Which ones?”
“Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson… They came looking for you, but you happened to be away.”
“Haunted again?”
“Not everyone is Jamie… They wanted to invite you out.”
So even the Detective and the others had heard about Jamie’s ghost-attracting constitution…
“Anyone else visit the shop besides them?”
“Not really.”
Hearing this, Su Fan sighed inwardly.
Why was finding a shop assistant so difficult…
It had been so long with no leads.
The three of them walked and talked, soon reaching the outside of the airport.
Su Fan listened to the two of them chatting about various trivial matters, occasionally nodding.
“Things have been relatively peaceful lately. Cases related to… that area have been almost non-existent.”
The Detective, sitting in the passenger seat, sounded a bit puzzled.
“Is it because the overall situation is improving?”
“No chance of that.”
Carl, who was driving, stated firmly.
“It’s probably just a coincidence that they’ve all been lying low for a while.”
When it came to community troubles, no one was more qualified to speak than him.
The Detective spent most of his time on criminal investigation and solving cases. Only patrol officers like Carl truly understood the shady dealings at the grassroots level.
If someone said improved public security had reduced the appearance of evil spirits and ghosts, Carl would be the first to disagree.
“Well, that’s fine too… Dealing with regular police calls keeps us busy enough. Adding those special cases on top would really be exhausting.”
The Detective touched his pocket as if to pull out a cigarette, but then lowered his hand.
“Speaking of the community… recently, it seems small groups of people have been gathering in a certain neighborhood.”
Carl mentioned offhandedly, recalling something he’d noticed on his recent patrols.
“Seems like some kind of religious activity.”
“As long as they don’t cause trouble in a group, all we can do is keep a close eye on them.”
The Detective sighed.
Listening to their conversation, Su Fan frowned.
Religious activity.
It reminded him of the Death God he had dealt with before.
Originally insignificant things, after receiving human worship and sacrifices, could gain power they shouldn’t possess.
Because of his past experiences, Su Fan had developed a strong aversion to these all sorts of messy evil cults and illicit shrines.
“Religious activity… do you know what religion?”
“Didn’t ask about that.”
Hearing Su Fan speak up, Carl was somewhat surprised, then answered frankly.
Ordinary patrol officers weren’t too keen on provoking strange religious types for no reason either.
“Su, do you think there’s a problem? I can go question them later.”
“No need, I was just asking casually.”
Carl and his fellow patrol officers were ordinary people. If there really was a problem, they wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“Speaking of religious activities, there have been some news about that lately.”
“A university here in California invited a couple to give a public lecture on the occult.”
“I’ve seen related videos; they didn’t seem like frauds.”
“Looked into it more carefully and found out the couple are actually the only non-formal, Church-recognized exorcists.”
The Detective’s words successfully caught Su Fan’s attention.
“Where are they now?”
“San Francisco. Their most recent public lecture seems to have been there.”
“Detective, your ability to get information really surprises me.”
As a red light appeared at the intersection ahead, Carl, while waiting, looked at the Detective with admiration.
“I happen to have a few friends in San Francisco too, called them to ask…”
“Keeping an eye on this stuff has become a subconscious habit for me now.”
The Detective’s tone was very natural. He turned around from the passenger seat to look at Su Fan, who wasn’t talking much in the back.
“Su, now that your antique shop business is gradually picking up, are you still planning to continue with the exorcism-related work?”
“Of course I’ll continue.”
Even though he wasn’t short of money now, cultivation still required combat experience for honing.
While the two were talking, they suddenly noticed the car slowing down.
“What’s going on?”
the Detective asked.
Carl in the driver’s seat said nothing, just gestured with his eyes towards the front.
Su Fan and the Detective followed his gaze and saw two young men acting furtively beside a pickup truck.
They looked like a pair of car thieves, no doubt about it.
Carl and the Detective exchanged a glance, then both looked at Su Fan.
Su Fan knew they were seeking his opinion. He nodded, feeling a bit helpless inwardly.
He wasn’t going to get annoyed over a slight delay like this.
These two were sometimes a bit too cautious.
Having received Su Fan’s approval, the two got out of the car, one on each side, their steps starting slow then quickening.
The younger one, who was on lookout, immediately sensed something was wrong. But by the time he alerted his accomplice, it was too late.
Carl and the Detective were extremely fast, immediately catching up to the two men. They pulled handcuffs from their belts and cuffed them.
“Wait, wait, who are you? What do you want?!”
The two men didn’t put up obvious resistance, but kept protesting verbally.
“LAPD… You two boys, save your talk for the station.”
The Detective showed his badge.
Seeing this, the two young men exchanged a look, showing bitter smiles.
Off to a bad start.
Ran into cops right here.
Meanwhile, Su Fan also got out of the back seat and walked over, joining to see what was happening.
