After Swapping Lives, the Metaphysics Side Character Became the Wealthy Family's Beloved - Chapter 33
“Husband… my husband… it’s really you!” Mrs. Meng sobbed as she clutched the haunted doll, her hands trembling and tears streaming down her face.
Liu Yusi gently patted her back in comfort.
“Wife… save me! Master, please save me!” The voice from the doll whimpered. He had woken up trapped in darkness, unable to see or escape.
After recounting his ordeal, Mr. Xue wailed, “Master, get me out of here! It’s so dark—I’m scared!”
For a domineering CEO, his terrified cries were downright embarrassing. Mrs. Meng flicked the doll’s face. “Stop howling like a ghost!”
“Ow! That hurts… Even you’re bullying me now?” Mr. Xue grumbled, his pitiful tone making Mrs. Meng laugh through her tears, easing her anxiety.
Their only hope now lay with Li Qiao.
“To the Li family’s house,” Li Qiao declared.
Without hesitation, the group piled into cars and sped toward the Li residence.
Mrs. Meng’s temper flared the entire way, and by the time they stormed into the Li family’s living room, the servants—who had tried to stop them—were already knocked out by the Li brothers.
“Li Gang! Lin Qiuping! You vile scum, get out here!” Mrs. Meng bellowed, snatching a glass vase from the table and smashing it on the floor.
The remaining servants cowered, too afraid to intervene.
“Our master and madam… aren’t home,” one stammered.
Mrs. Meng scoffed. “If those two cowards don’t show themselves today, I’ll tear this house apart! How dare they plot against us? I’ll skin them alive!”
“Ahem… dear, the kids are here. Mind your image,” Mr. Xue’s voice piped up from the doll, now held by Li Shaoyang.
Enraged, Mrs. Meng marched over and pinched the doll’s cheeks hard, eliciting another yelp from Mr. Xue.
A faint smirk crossed Li Qiao’s lips.
Now, they had to find the Li couple.
Li Qiao folded a paper crane from a talisman. With a chant and a flick of her finger, golden light infused the crane, and it fluttered into the air.
Li Shaoyang’s mind went blank, his heartbeat pounding in his ears as he stared at Li Qiao in awe.
My sister… is a true master.
He mentally kicked himself for ever doubting her.
Eagerly, he followed Li Qiao—today had completely reshaped his worldview.
The crane led them to a locked room. Li Qiao paused, then scoffed. “So this is where they’re hiding. What a haul.”
Without hesitation, Li Shaoyang kicked the door open. “After you, Qiaoqiao!” He grinned, itching to see what was inside.
Li Shaojin shot him a look. So now he believes her?
The room was freezing. Rubbing their arms, they entered, stopping at a storage closet. As Li Qiao reached for the knob, Li Shaojin stepped in front. “Let me go first.”
Li Qiao smiled. What a good big brother.
Inside, the cold intensified, a sinister aura pressing down on them.
“So many jars… What’s in them?” Mrs. Meng whispered, clutching Liu Yusi’s arm in fear.
Just as Li Shaojin moved to inspect one, Li Qiao stopped him. “Don’t touch them. They’re all infants.”
His eyes widened in horror.
Hundreds of jars lined the room. The group shuddered.
“Well… well…” A woman’s voice croaked.
Liu Yusi stiffened. “That’s Lin Qiuping.”
At the far end of the room, Li Gang and Lin Qiuping stood waiting. The moment the group entered, Mrs. Meng and Liu Yusi gagged in disgust.
“Li Gang! Lin Qiuping! You monsters!” Mrs. Meng screamed.
Li Gang sneered. “What’s wrong with chasing youth? You’re the ones ruining everything. I should’ve killed you outright!” His face was ghastly, eyes bloodshot like a demon’s.
Lin Qiuping giggled, her neck twisting unnaturally as she leered at Li Qiao. “Sister Hua, let’s kill her, shall we? Look at that smooth skin… I want it.”
Li Qiao smirked. “You? Kill me? Don’t overestimate yourselves.” With a flick of her wrist, a talisman shot toward the kitchen.
Sister Hua materialized, her grin grotesque. “Impressive. But none of you are leaving alive.”
“Stealing souls, murdering infants—enjoy your time in hell’s oil vats,” Li Qiao said coolly.
Sister Hua’s face twisted. Her gaze locked onto the haunted doll.
“You’ll pay for this.”
“Relax. You’ll die long before I do.”
Enraged, Sister Hua lunged—
Just as Officer Shao Rong and his team arrived at the Li estate, a deafening explosion rocked the grounds. A building collapsed in the distance. They sprinted toward the chaos.
Li Qiao waved away the dust, sheepishly eyeing the rubble. “Oops. Overdid it a little.”
Officer Shao, catching her remark, sighed. “At least no one’s dead.”
“Not dead, but she won’t last long.” Li Qiao pointed to Sister Hua’s crumpled form, blood pooling beneath her. Li Gang and Lin Qiuping lay unconscious nearby.
Another mess for Shao Rong to handle.
The jars held fetuses—some fully formed, some not—all steeped in resentment.
Moved by pity, Li Qiao chanted softly. Golden light shimmered, and the oppressive gloom lifted.
The group watched in awe.
“Let’s go. The police can handle this. Back to the hospital,” Li Qiao said.
The ride back was silent.
At the hospital, Li Shaoyang finally spoke. “Qiaoqiao… were you releasing their souls?”
“They were innocent. Some were born of love, others of hate. Trapped too long, tainted by dark magic—they didn’t deserve this karma. I just guided them onward, hoping they’ll find loving families in their next lives.”
To her, it was a small act. But to the others, it was profound.
Qiaoqiao is truly noble!
Li Qiao blinked at their reverent stares. “It was nothing, really.”
Mrs. Meng sighed. “I’ve lived decades, yet Qiaoqiao’s compassion puts me to shame. I’ll set up memorial tablets for those children at a temple.”
Li Qiao smiled. “Your kindness will be rewarded, Auntie Meng.”
