Jiang Fei had indeed offered an attractive package to recruit skilled doctors, one that surpassed the standard salaries of most large hospitals. It was enough to make even the most ambitious recent graduates eager to apply.
What’s more, Jiang Fei’s offer wasn’t fixed. If a candidate passed his interview and demonstrated genuine talent, their salary could be adjusted based on their skill level. For Jiang Fei, hiring doctors wasn’t like hiring other staff—he wasn’t willing to cut corners. After all, the better the doctors he hired, the smoother his work would be. More importantly, if his hospital lacked competent doctors besides himself, it would severely damage its reputation.
As Jiang Fei and Tian Shanshan walked out of the office, a quiet and composed young woman followed behind. Tian Shanshan smiled and introduced her, “Jiang Fei, let me introduce you to Yang Hui. She’s one of our students, and I’ve mentioned you to her before. This is your senior, Jiang Fei. He’s quite the accomplished alumnus—he’s already started his own hospital. After you graduate, you might want to ask him for career advice.”
Yang Hui seemed shy and reserved, but her role as a teaching assistant had clearly given her confidence. She smiled sweetly and nodded politely at Jiang Fei. “I hope Senior Jiang will take care of me in the future!”
For a medical student, having connections with a hospital director was a golden opportunity. These days, finding a job after graduating from medical school wasn’t as easy as it used to be.
Jiang Fei nodded in acknowledgment but remained humble. “Professor Tian, you’re giving me too much credit. I’m just starting a small hospital. It’s nothing grand—just a modest venture.”
Tian Shanshan shook his head. “Every great endeavor starts small, especially in our field. As long as you’re diligent, your practice will only grow.”
Jiang Fei didn’t argue further. He was confident in his abilities. With his medical skills and the growing reputation of “Acupuncture Master Jiang” spreading throughout Jin City and even Sichuan Province, he had no doubt his hospital would attract patients. The business would thrive, and the hospital would inevitably expand.
Once the foundation was laid, everything else would fall into place.
The conference room was on the seventh floor of the administration building, where recruitment interviews were usually held. Soon, Jiang Fei, Tian Shanshan, and Yang Hui arrived at the room.
However, the atmosphere inside was unexpected—not just for Jiang Fei, but also for Tian Shanshan, who had arranged the meeting.
They had anticipated a straightforward recruitment session with maybe a dozen students from the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. But when they entered, they found over twenty students waiting. Even more surprising was the presence of a middle-aged man who was clearly not a student.
Jiang Fei didn’t recognize the man, but Tian Shanshan was taken aback. He quickly approached and asked, “Secretary Pan, what brings you here?”
The man was Pan Shuangquan, the Party Secretary of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. A prominent figure in Jin City Medical University, Pan Shuangquan held far more influence than Tian Shanshan, a mere academic advisor.
Tian Shanshan was baffled. Why would someone of Pan Shuangquan’s stature attend a recruitment session for a small hospital? It seemed excessive.
Yang Hui, the teaching assistant, was equally confused. She had only been informed that students from the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine had arrived and had relayed the message to Tian Shanshan.
“Professor Tian, you’ve truly mentored an exceptional student,” Pan Shuangquan said with a meaningful smile.
Tian Shanshan was even more puzzled. “Secretary Pan, what do you mean?”
Pan Shuangquan chuckled but didn’t elaborate. Instead, he turned his gaze to Jiang Fei. His expression was unusual—not the pride or satisfaction one might expect from a university official meeting a successful alumnus, but something closer to respect.
Yes, respect.
This was highly unusual. Even if a former student had achieved great success, a university official would typically feel pride or satisfaction, not reverence.
“I recently heard that Dr. Jiang Fei was coming to our university to recruit. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was the same Dr. Jiang. But now I see it really is you! I had no idea that the renowned Dr. Jiang was an alumnus of Jin City Medical University. This is truly an honor for our institution,” Pan Shuangquan said, his tone filled with admiration.
Jiang Fei scratched his nose, surprised by the unexpected attention. “Secretary Pan, you’ve heard of me?”
Pan Shuangquan nodded eagerly. “I read about you in the Sichuan Daily a while back. At the time, I was impressed but didn’t think much of it. Then yesterday, when I visited my mentor, he spoke highly of your skills and accomplishments. That’s when I truly understood the extent of your talent.”
Jiang Fei was even more confused now. It made sense that Pan Shuangquan had heard of him through the newspaper, but what did his mentor have to do with it?
“May I ask who your mentor is?” Jiang Fei inquired.
Tian Shanshan, still in the dark about what was happening, quickly explained, “Secretary Pan’s mentor is Professor Ge Fangping, the most senior professor at Sichuan Medical University. In Jin City’s medical circles, Professor Ge and Dr. Qin Zhengming from Second People’s Hospital are the most renowned physicians.”
Jiang Fei’s confusion lifted slightly. He wasn’t familiar with Professor Ge Fangping, but he recognized Dr. Qin Zhengming’s name. Professor Ge must have been one of the four experts he had encountered at the sanatorium.
Though he still wasn’t sure which one, it didn’t really matter.
“Ah, so Secretary Pan is a disciple of Professor Ge Fangping. My apologies for not realizing sooner,” Jiang Fei said, playing along. In situations like this, it was best to maintain appearances. After all, he needed Pan Shuangquan’s cooperation to recruit students.
Pan Shuangquan’s smile widened, clearly pleased by Jiang Fei’s response. He had no idea that Jiang Fei had once humiliated his mentor at the sanatorium. If he had known the full story, his attitude might have been very different.
“My mentor holds you in high regard as well,” Pan Shuangquan said warmly.
Tian Shanshan was even more astonished. Professor Ge Fangping, one of Jin City’s most respected physicians, admired Jiang Fei’s skills? How was that possible?
Before Tian Shanshan could ask more questions, Pan Shuangquan gently steered him aside. “Professor Tian, let’s chat over there. We shouldn’t delay Dr. Jiang’s recruitment process. After reading about him in the Sichuan Daily, our students are eager to learn from him and gain some experience at his hospital.”
With that, Pan Shuangquan and Tian Shanshan moved to the side, leaving Jiang Fei to begin the interviews. The students, having heard of Jiang Fei’s reputation, were visibly excited, ready to impress the renowned doctor and secure a place at his hospital.
